Dr. Kristin Ates Hicks is a comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery, refractive surgery and astigmatism correction, pterygium removal, and dry eye treatment. She is dedicated to providing individualized care, helping patients preserve their vision and enhance their quality of life.
Dr. Ates Hicks began her academic journey at Tulane University, where she balanced rigorous studies with her role as a Division I student-athlete on the Swimming and Diving team. Her achievements in research, academics, and community involvement earned her the prestigious Tulane 34 Award. She graduated magna cum laude with honors before pursuing an MD/PhD at the Medical College of Georgia. Her doctoral research in neuroscience, under the mentorship of Y. Albert Pan, PhD, advanced the understanding of endocytic adaptor proteins in human disease. During her training, she discovered her passion for ophthalmology, a field that blends clinical care, surgical expertise, and innovative research.
She completed her residency at the University of Florida, a program renowned for its high surgical volume and diverse ophthalmic pathology. With a commitment to patient-centered care, Dr. Ates Hicks ensures each patient receives personalized treatment to support their long-term eye health.
Outside of work, she enjoys swimming, spending time outdoors with her husband and their black lab, exploring new restaurants, and traveling.
