At Southern Eye Group of Alabama we have many talented eye doctors providing high quality eye treatment and care across our three offices. All our eye doctors have many years of experience, prestigious degrees, and accolades. This month, we want to highlight Dr. Zloty for his most recent achievement: the 2019 APAO Achievement Award.

About Dr. Zloty

Dr. Zloty is no stranger to hard work and high merits. Before joining the skilled eye doctor team at Southern Eye Group of Alabama, he devoted many years to advanced education and diverse experience in the medical and ophthalmology field. He studied medicine at Rensselaer in Troy, NY and Albany Medical College in Albany, NY. Following medical school, he went on to work at the Albany Medical Center Hospital before serving an active duty tour in the U.S. Navy. His service earned him the rank of Lieutenant Commander and a Sea Service Medal. Dr. Zloty served in the Newport Naval Hospital Emergency Medicine Department and Brig Medical Service while stateside, and as an intensive care physician while at sea. After the service, Dr. Zloty returned to Albany for a three-year residency in ophthalmology. He was then hired as a clinical instructor, staffing the first year resident’s clinic while serving as a fellow in Corneal and External disease.

Today, in addition to being a trusted eye doctor to patients across Mobile, Fairhope, and Foley, Dr. Zloty is an instructor at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting. He has lectured on both a national and international level and contributed to several publications for his specialized field. Dr. Zloty has also travelled to Honduras and East Timor on multiple occasions to perform medical and surgical humanitarian mission work.

The APAO Achievement Award

Dr. Zloty was honored to receive the APAO Achievement Award this spring. The APAO is the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology. In 2008, the APAO created a prestigious awards program to honor eye doctors for their contribution to scientific ophthalmology programs that are recognized by the APAO Annual Congress. Awardees are chosen based on a cumulative point system that judges many different factors of skill, performance, innovation, care, etc. Dr. Zloty was presented with an achievement award from this competitive forum at the 34^th APAO Congress meeting in Bangkok, Thailand this year.
